Everton Appoint New Manager

As rumored, Everton have opted for the Uruguayan, Gustavo Diaz as their new manager. The 44 year old has extensive managerial experience in the Americas working in Ecuador, Paraguay, Bolivia and Mexico after cutting his teeth in his native Uruguay. Here he was voted “Manager of the Year” with minnows Defensor Sporting in 2011/12 season before moving across town to manage Nacional Montevideo, where he achieved the runners-up spot the following season. His last club was Leon in Mexico, which is part of the Pachuca Group, continuing a trend some Evertonianos consider as a little worrying. In-comings and outgoings of payers as well as managers seem to be dictated by the links with the Mexican parent owners. Only last week one of the most promising players, Dilan Zuñiga was transferred to Leon, at no cost to the Mexican club (no fees are allowed between clubs from the same stable). A proposed transfer to Universidad Católica, which would have netted Everton US$300,000 failed to materialise.
