Everton returned to winning ways with a convincing two-nil home win against Huachipato on the weekend. The win lifts Everton into fifth place going into the remaining game of the Clausura.
The players wore the names of their mothers on the back of their shirts to celebrate Mothering Sunday.
Everton started well and went close on more than one occasion before Steven Almedia opened the scoring after 19 minutes. A long ball forward was brought down by Almedia who rounded the keeper and poked the ball into the bottom corner.
Maxi Ceratto doubled the lead on 39 minutes when he made a clever run and latched onto a pass from Franco Ragusa to slot past the onrushing goalkeeper.
Everton had opportunities to strengthen their lead but Huachipato goalkeeper Carlos Lampe was in fine form to make a string of good saves.
Omar Merlo saw red for the away side with five minutes to go after denying Raul Berecca a goal scoring opportunity.
Pablo Sanchez was thrilled with the way his team performed after a difficult few weeks.
“We had personality and we maintained our game idea, we have to define better, we created a lot of situations but we went with a two zero to the dressing room and that is a failure. We played well, before a great rival and the victory leaves me satisfied.” Sánchez said.
Everton will travel to Palestino on Saturday 20th May to round off the domestic season.
The Ruleteros will then have the return leg of the Copa Sudamericana first stage against Patriotas Boyacá to prepare for on Wednesday 31st May.
