Everton continued their fine form with a convincing win at home to Universidad de Concepción on Friday evening. The win lifts Everton into second, just two points off leaders Colo Colo.
Things got off to a bad start when Everton striker Raul Becerra was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident after only 20 minutes. A coming together between Becerra and a Concepción defender resulted in the defender falling to the ground clutching his face. Replays showed very minimal contact in what seemed a very harsh decision.
The opening goal came five minutes into the second half through midfielder Rodrigo Echeverría. A corner from the right bounced into the path of Echeverría who exquisitely lifted his shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
A second then came with seven minutes remaining when striker Wilson Morelo was put through and smashed his shot into the roof of the net to seal all three points for the home side.
A richly deserved win for the home side which stretches the unbeaten run to seven games.
