Everton Vina del Mar S.A.D.P. have announced the dismissal of Hector Tapia as Head Coach.
The club thanked Hector for his efforts, stating in a press release, “The club thank you deeply Hector the joy of having won promotion to the First Division and the professionalism shown in the months with the Gold and Sky. With his coaching staff, [we] wish all a promising future in professional fields such as personal.”
Tapia guided Everton back to the top-flight of Chilean football after a 3-2 aggregate win over Puerto Montt in May. It was an impressive feat considering he only had three games to prepare his side who were lacking confidence after a poor run of results under former manager Victor Rivero.
It was hoped with the influx of new players that Everton would make an early impression on their return to the Chilean top-flight.
It wasn’t to be.
Despite starting the new season with a promising victory over Unión San Felipe in the Copa Chile, Everton failed to win any of their opening six games of the domestic season and lay second-bottom on three points.
According to reports in Chile this evening, it is thought Argentine Claudio Vivas will be announced as Tapia’s successor who was recommended to the Everton board by Marcelo Bielsa.
