Everton Viña del Mar SADP took the decision to terminate the contract of manager Victor Rivero as of 01 April.
Despite leading Everton to the Apertura Championship and ensuring Everton’s place in the end-of-season play-off, the Ruleteros have only managed two wins out of 12 games since.
The poor run has seen the Ruleteros slip to seventh and 17 points behind leaders Deportes Temuco in the overall league table. After clinching the Apertura title, Everton went into the Clausura tournament in second place, 6 points behind Temuco, with the primary aim of catching Temuco and clinching automatic promotion.
After the gold and sky fell to Iberia on the weekend, pressure mounted on Rivero, as fans debated whether an immediate change of manager was necessary with the promotion play-off looming and no upturn in form within sight.
No new manager has been confirmed, but speculation is mounting that former Colo Colo man Hector Tapia will be confirmed as the new head coach in the coming days.
In the meantime, Cristián Uribe will take charge for the game against Puerto Montt on Sunday. Uribe was a part of Everon’s Championship winning team in 2008 and had been a coach at the club under Rivero.
Four games remain in the domestic season. Then, Everton will face the eventual winners of the Clausura tournament in a two-legged tie, with the winner clinching promotion back to the top-flight.
Despite a difficult second part to the season, Everton have the perfect opportunity to put all of that behind them.
UPDATE: 02 April, Everton Viña del Mar SADP confirm the appointment of Hector Tapia as the new Everton manager.
