Today I, along with Paul Wharton, Ian Parr and Jimmy Milner, met up with Roberto Martinez at Finch Farm – a delegation we hoped would have been led by Tony. We explained to Roberto Tony’s role, passion and achievements and he was keen to pass on his condolences to Angela.
The meeting itself, arranged via Robert Elstone, was simply to introduce the Society – our aims, achievements and goals – with an emphasis on the return match in Chile and the combined initiative from the Ruleteros & Heritage Society to raise funds for the Former Player Foundations of both Clubs via the collection of foreign currency (details to follow).
It was very informal and we were all impressed with the warmth and enthusiasm of our Manager – a real nice guy.
He not only took on board the idea of a re-match in Chile but looked at the logistics of such a game. No guarantees but the seed has been planted and we now need to water it, as we did with the Goodison game.
